Alcohol addiction is a multifaceted problem, and each person has their own unique path to recovery.
Some individuals turn to alcohol as a way to cope with difficult emotions, traumatic experiences, or
underlying mental health issues. These co-occurring disorders require specialized treatment and are
further explained on our website’s page covering dual-diagnosis.
Others may have a genetic predisposition to alcohol addiction, which can also lead to damaging
consequences in their personal and professional life. Alcoholism can result in long-lasting negative
effects, such as feelings of isolation and difficulty connecting with others.
If left untreated, alcohol addiction can progress and even become life-threatening. Regardless of the
underlying causes, each person requires individualized assessment and a comprehensive treatment plan
to achieve a healthy, sober life.
THE RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN TRAUMA AND ALCOHOL ADDICTION
Numerous studies are revealing a connection between alcohol addiction and trauma. According to some
estimates, more than two-thirds of individuals seeking treatment for substance abuse have experienced
one or more traumatic events in their lives. However, many individuals who seek treatment at Integrated
Health and Recovery Center may not realize that past trauma is contributing to their struggles with
alcohol addiction.
For men diagnosed with alcohol and drug addiction, PTSD is the most prevalent co-occurring disorder,
followed by depression. Our treatment program at Integrated Health and Recovery Center is tailored to
address alcoholism alongside any underlying trauma that may be contributing to it.
REASONS TO CHOOSE OUR ALCOHOL TREATMENT PROGRAM
At Integrated Health and Recovery Center, we understand that effective and high-quality alcoholism
treatment requires careful planning and individualization. We conduct a thorough assessment of your
situation to fully comprehend the impact that alcohol addiction has had on your life and possibly those
of your loved ones.
When alcohol addiction hijacks your brain, simply relying on willpower is insufficient to combat its
effects. Our mental health services and treatment program leverage your brain’s natural neuroplasticity –
its ability to adapt to new situations, experiences, and environments by forming new neural pathways.
Your brain’s resilience is a potent force.
Our treatment center uses evidence-based approaches that focus on integrative therapies, diet, and
exercise to rewire neural pathways. By reducing your responses to triggers, we aim to increase your self-efficacy.
12 STEP, OR NOT
We acknowledge that everyone’s recovery journey is unique, and therefore, we do not solely rely on the
12-Step program at our treatment center. Instead, we offer a range of recovery methods, including the
12-Step program for those who are interested. Our team has a comprehensive understanding of the
principles of the 12-Step program, and we encourage residents who want to integrate it into their
treatment plan to do so.
Moreover, we provide residents with the opportunity to attend on-site and off-site 12-Step meetings
that address alcoholism, drug addiction, and codependency. Our primary aim is to support residents in
achieving long-term recovery, and those who wish to continue their recovery journey with the 12-Step
program after leaving our facility should feel comfortable doing so in their home communities. This
includes finding a support group, selecting a sponsor, participating in other therapy programs, and
completing the steps. We also offer exposure to other peer-based support groups such as refuge
recovery.
