At Integrated Health and Recovery Center, we provide individual therapy for substance abuse that
focuses on both physical (detox) and mental health (therapy) aspects of addiction. Our goal is to help
patients understand what caused or contributed to their addiction, how to maintain abstinence, and
how to avoid triggers that can lead to relapse, following successful detox.
While group therapy can be helpful for many patients, individual substance abuse counseling has
different objectives and benefits. Individual therapy aims to assist the patient in remaining sober and
learning new coping strategies for life. In contrast, group therapy enables multiple patients to come
together and discuss and express their shared struggles, support each other, learn to communicate more
effectively, and develop trusting relationships.
Individual substance abuse treatment teaches patients new ways to handle daily stressors and is tailored
to their unique needs, allowing them to identify and work through underlying issues that contributed to
their addiction, such as grief or trauma. One-on-one counseling also addresses co-occurring conditions
such as depression and anxiety.
We acknowledge that patients differ in age, addiction type, underlying causes of addiction, and response
to therapy. Therefore, we provide multiple counseling techniques to cater to these diverse needs.
The following are the most common counseling techniques offered, as we understand that patients differ
in age, addictions, contributing factors, and response to therapy:
No matter which technique is employed, the purpose of individual therapy for substance abuse is to
work in conjunction with group therapy. Patients receive diverse perspectives and techniques from both
types of therapies. To achieve an overall positive outcome for each individual patient, the most
successful substance abuse treatment plans incorporate multiple programs.
